Company will maintain market position premium
The new Alitalia took off this Friday (9) night. At least from a formal point of view. The Italian airline will be called Alitalia ITA, acronym for “Italy Air Transport”.
“It will be ITAliana because it will have to take Italy to the world”, wrote Paola De Micheli, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in a Facebook post.
The four ministers responsible for the dossier – Economy, Transport, Economic Development, Labor – signed the merger decree, which formalized the appointment of senior management: the administrator will be Fabio Maria Lazzerini and Francesco Caio the president.
Alitalia belongs to the holding company Compagnia Aerea Italiana (51%) and Etihad Airways (49%), but has been under government intervention since May 2017 because of a liquidity crisis that left it on the brink of bankruptcy.
Last month, CEO Fabio Lazzerini highlighted that the new Alitalia will maintain its positioning in the premium market, ruling out a foray into the low-cost sector.
