CGIE Assembly will be on April 9, says Italian embassy

A Italian Embassy in Brasilia confirmed, this Friday (4), that the national assembly of the General Council of Italians Abroad (CGIE) will be on April 9th.

A Paese Assembly should elect the new members of the CGIE in Brazil, which currently has three delegates – Cesare Villone (Fortaleza-CE), Rita Blasioli (São Paulo) and Silvia Alciati (Minas Gerais) –, but will have four delegates from the next election onwards.

O CGIE is a representative body of Italian communities abroad and is guaranteed in Italian Constitution – articles 3 and 35.

They can participate in the election of delegates, for the CGIE, members of Committees, elected and co-opted (Italian descendants, but without formal recognition of Italian citizenship), and designated by Italian Associations registered in the consular registry, and all Italian citizens residing in Brazil for at least three years.

“The CGIE aims to promote and facilitate the development of the living conditions of Italian communities abroad and their individual components, to strengthen the connection of these communities with the political, cultural, economic and social life of Italy, to ensure the most effective protection of rights of Italians abroad and facilitate the maintenance of cultural and linguistic identity”, says the embassy note.

Applications must be formalized by March 29th. Forms to participate in the CGIE election can be downloaded here: model A and  model B.

Further information about registration can be requested by email: [email protected]
