In 2020, Brazil imported around US$231 million worth of wines, pastas and other Made in Italy products from Italy. This represents an increase of 1,06% last year compared to 2019.
The data are from Italian Trade Agency, the Italian government agency whose mission is to promote commercial and technological exchange between Italy and other countries.
In total values, Brazilian imports of food and drinks from Italy totaled US$231.266,310 in 2020 – around R$1,283 billion –, an increase of 1,06% compared to 2019, which totaled US$228.847,181.
The foods Made in Italy most imported by Brazil last year were pasta (23,5 thousand tons), tomatoes and sauces (21,4 thousand tons), kiwi (11,2 thousand tons), olive oil (4,6 thousand tons) and flour ( 4,4 thousand tons).

Among the products that registered the greatest growth in imports in value, compared to 2019, were bread, sweets and cookies, which totaled US$ 14.781.507, an increase of 54,8%; hams and sausages, US$ 1.667.747 (31,4%); rice and risotto preparations, US$7.888.148 (28,9%); flours, US$2.913.592 (20,3%); olive oils, US$ 19.667.608 (10,39%).
But they were the Italian wines, the drink of the pandemic, whose consumption grew by more than 30% in 2020. Brazil imported more than 11 million liters from Italy, totaling US$36.023.547.
