Italian City creates free wine fountain. It operates 24 hours a day to “quench the thirst” of pilgrims.
The winery Dora Sarchese, located in the city of Caldari di Ortona, in the Abruzzo region, central Italy, has opened an unusual “fountain” of red wine.
It will operate 24 hours a day to “quench the thirst” of visitors to the city and there is no cost to anyone who uses it. The city is part of the famous pilgrimage route I walk of St. Thomas.
The inspiration for this “wine benevolence” came from a similar source that already exists on the Camino de Santiago, in Spain. However, the owner of the Italian version of the “wine fountain” has already warned: “it was made to be used in moderation by visitors! Drunks and rowdies are not welcome!”
