Actress Cláudia Raia has embraced the cause of Italian descendants who are demanding the repeal of the decree-law that limits the transmission of Italian citizenship by right of blood, and recorded a video in which she invites Brazilians to participate in a "peaceful" demonstration on May 3rd in São Paulo.
"Hi everyone! I want to talk to you about an urgent matter," Raia warned at the beginning of the recording, which is circulating in WhatsApp groups and has been shared on the Instagram profiles of Italian citizenship agencies.
With a serious air, after explaining what the decree is, the actress called the measure “totally unconstitutional” and made an appeal to Italian descendants in Brazil.
“On May 3, there will be a peaceful demonstration against the decree. If you are of Italian descent, this decree directly affects you, your children, your grandchildren, your family. It is time to act,” Raia concludes. The demonstration will be held at Praça Cidade de Milão, in Vila Nova Conceição, São Paulo, starting at 10 am.
The Supreme Court reaffirmed: citizenship is born with the person.
- New legal front opened
- Processes can still be filed.
- Individual assessment before any decision.
A similar demonstration will take place in Piazza Campidoglio, Rome, on the same date and time.
The decree in question came into force on March 28 and imposes a generational limit on the transmission of “jus sanguinis” citizenship, determining that only those who have one parent or grandparent born in Italy will be able to obtain dual nationality. (HANDLE)
