Second Petrocelli, the proposal is in the base text that must be presented in the Senate
"We expect that the recognition and reacquisition (of Italian citizenship) will be subject to a test to bring our legislation in line with that of the countries of the European Union."
These are the senator's words Vito Petrocelli, president committee on foreign affairs, in the Italian Senate. The information was released by the Italian news agency AISE.
The parliamentarian from the 5-Star Movement, a party allied with the current government, participated this morning (03) in the opening session of the plenary do General Council of Italians Abroad, which will continue until Friday, July 5th, and will discuss topics related to Italians around the world.
Second Petrocelli, those who wish to have their citizenship recognized must go through a test to be structured on two occasions, a language exam and another on education and constitutional civic law.
“There are people who have few and distant Italian ancestors, but who have never set foot in Italy and who do not speak Italian. It is necessary to verify the persistence of their links with Italy, which cannot be based solely on descent,” he said.
The proposal is in the draft text that should be presented to the Senate later this year and which foresees changes to Italian citizenship, by Juice Sanguinis (right of blood).
“We are aware that this is an opportunity to make a change on issues that have been awaiting a solution for a long time,” he said. Petrocelli.
