RJ Consulate creates abusive script for Italian citizenship

The route for recognizing Italian citizenship at the Consulate General of Italy in Rio de Janeiro has been modified.

Now, applicants must judicially rectify spelling errors in names and surnames, and dates, in the certificates of all ancestors.

And the rectification must be done through legal means, according to the regulation. “If civil registration certificates contain errors or changes to data, such as name/surname and date of birth, judicial rectification must be requested for all ascendants, including the deceased”, says the new script from the Consulate General of Italy in Rio de Janeiro, published this week.

The other consulates and embassies in Brazil accept administrative rectifications, made at a notary's office, and tolerate small errors in certificates, as long as they do not raise doubts in the genealogical line.
