Between November 11 and 17, a Venetian delegation, in northern Italy, led by the regional secretary of the Veneto Region, Cristiano Corazzari, visited several cities in Rio Grande do Sul.
The mission marked the celebrations of 150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil and strengthened cultural ties between the Brazilian state and the Italian region, which share a rich historical heritage.
“The visit was an opportunity to learn about the local reality and evaluate the results of the resources allocated to strengthening Venetian culture abroad,” said Corazzari, highlighting the importance of the exchange.
The delegation visited cities with a strong presence of descendants of Venetian immigrants, analyzing the impact of projects funded by the Veneto regional government. Between 2022 and 2024, around €224 (R$1,3 million) were allocated to cultural initiatives, in addition to €245 (R$1,4 million) to support associations, committees and federations in the sector.
Cristiano Corazzari also anticipated the possibility of a new mission in May 2025, to participate in an important local fair in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce.

Tribute in Lajeado and strengthening of historical ties
On the last day of the mission, a bas-relief representing the lion of Saint Mark, a historical symbol of Venetian culture, was inaugurated in Lajeado. The work is part of the project “25 lions of Saint Mark in the Eighth Venetian Province”, which reinforces the cultural identity of the descendant communities.
During the trip, the Italian delegation met with mayors and the Secretary of Culture of Rio Grande do Sul, Beatriz Araujo, to discuss future projects and strengthen cultural exchange.
