Italian company creates game to learn how to make wine

“Hundred Days” is a winery simulator developed by the Broken Arms Games studio in Turin, northern Italy.

It is the first management system that fully embraces the tradition, culture and economy of wine making in Italy: from atmospheric events, to soil pH, through to barrel management and the international wine market.

Balancing the dozens of factors that are involved in creating a good wine takes time, knowledge and a little luck. Like in real life.

O Hundred Days (One hundred days, in free translation) is set in an old winery in the Langhe, a mountainous area south and east of the river Tanaro in the province of Cuneo and the province of Asti in Piedmont, land of famous wines Barolo e Barbera.

How to play

The story begins in a run-down office full of cubicles, when a letter from a distant relative gives the player a life-changing legacy.

The game now moves to a small town in Piedmontese Langhe where an abandoned vineyard and a small amount of money await the lucky heir to begin his wine adventure.

Game allows you to customize wine bottles

Hundred Days has a very accessible format: in the center of the screen there is an expandable board made up of 9 squares (3×3) and in the player's hand there are a variety of cards that can be played to influence or counter what is happening on the playing field. game.

Each card remains played for a certain number of turns before completing its function. A game year consists of 20 plays, 5 per season.

The card for fermentation, the process of converting grape sugar into alcohol, for example, appears in your hand after you have completed the pressing process (the extraction of grape juice).

Fermentation takes time to complete, 2 or 3 rounds depending on the variety and alcohol content of the wine being produced.

By placing the fermentation card on the board and waiting a few rounds, the player will have created their first Barbera.

Obviously, there are many more steps on the way from grape to bottle, so balancing the work to be done with the wine's resting time forms the basis of the game's strategy.

This mechanic helps keep things simple without forcing the player to fully understand every little detail.

It's an elegant solution that works incredibly well. The game takes a light-hearted approach and is designed as a relaxing experience, with an incredibly smooth learning curve, intuitive and rewarding at the same time.

There is no need to know the ideal balance between soil pH and the ideal amount of grape sugar.

For those with a passion for detail, though, all the raw numbers and simulated analyzes are available by simply browsing through the menus.

The game to learn how to make wine is available on the Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Google Stadia and Mac OS platforms.
