After expressing his dissatisfaction with Italian cuisine, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva once again criticizes, this time in relation to the choice of an Italian coach to lead the Brazilian team.
Lula regretted the decision of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as coach of the national team from June 2024. During an interview with SBT, the former president directly questioned the choice of the Italian coach to lead the Brazilian team next year.
“He was never the coach of the Italian national team. Why doesn’t he solve the problem of Italy, which didn’t even qualify for the last World Cup?” asked Lula.
Although Lula criticizes the decision, it is important to highlight that Carlo Ancelotti is widely recognized as one of the best coaches in the world today. Although he has never led a national team and refused Italy's invitation after the 2018 World Cup, the coach is the only one to win titles in Europe's top five football leagues. Furthermore, Ancelotti is the coach with the most Champions League victories, with four wins.
During the interview, Lula also took the opportunity to defend the choice of Fernando Diniz as interim coach of the Brazilian team until June 2024. According to the former president, the issue is not the name of the interim coach, but rather the lack of quality of the players. Brazilians today.
“The problem is not Diniz, the problem is that we don’t have the quality of players we had in other times,” said Lula.
