According to the RaiNews portal, Cagliari striker Yael Trepy is in intensive care at the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari, in an induced coma, after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at a house in Porto Cervo, on the Costa Smeralda. The club itself confirmed the accident. Initial reports indicate the player was on a relaxing Sunday when, for reasons still unclear, he reached the deep end of the pool. As he cannot swim, he quickly got into difficulty and was pulled from the water by lifeguards.
The situation appeared critical from the start. Doctors from the 118 emergency service attended to the attacker, who was intubated and transferred by helicopter to Sassari. An induced coma was decided upon to prevent further suffering and allow for the proper application of therapy. He remains under constant monitoring and will stay under observation.
Trepy was born in 2006 and turned 20 on May 20th. He started in Cagliari's victory over Arezzo in the Italian Cup and, like his teammates, was given the weekend off, with his return scheduled for the resumption of training. In a statement, the club said it is in constant contact with the hospital and the family and asked for respect for their privacy. "Ogni pensiero del Cagliari Calcio è rivolto a Yael," it stated.
