According to Sky TG24, five Italian citizens are among the eleven people surrounded by extremist settlers in Qusra, a village south of Nablus in the West Bank. Three Palestinian homes have remained isolated for six days by settlers linked to outposts in the Tel Talpiot region. The Italians are between 20 and 40 years old and arrived to show solidarity with the families. The Israeli army has not yet managed to restore calm.
The Farnesina, Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is monitoring the situation. According to the Wall Street Journal, the settlers closed an access road and cut off the water and electricity supply. Because one of the houses belongs to an American citizen, the United States also intervened: the ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, called the siege a "horrific act of terrorism." The episode was also condemned by leaders of the settlement community itself.
On the Iran front, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced new sanctions starting next week and promised Tehran economic isolation "like the world has never seen before." In an interview with Newsmax, he cited financial tightening and the blockade of Iranian ports through the Strait of Hormuz.
