Catania airport will have flights suspended until 2:00 AM on August 14th (Italian time). INGV has registered the opening of a new eruptive vent at an altitude of 2.090 meters, above Mount Simone, while volcanic tremors remain at a high level. (According to the RaiNews portal, see original.)

According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, Catania airport will remain closed until 2:00 AM on August 14th (Italian time) due to the ongoing eruption of Mount Etna. This marks seven consecutive days of canceled flights, delays, and diversions to other airports in Sicily. Since the beginning of the emergency, 700 flights have been canceled at Fontanarossa, and the end of the disruptions is not foreseeable, according to the newspaper.

SAC, the company that manages the airports of Catania and Comiso, stated that it is "ready to resume operations as soon as the authorities authorize it." The ash cloud is forcing schedule changes several times a day. In Palermo alone, 190 flights were diverted, affecting approximately 30 passengers.
