According to the RaiNews portal, Catania's Fontanarossa airport has suspended flights until 18 PM (Italian time) on August 12th due to eruptive activity from Mount Etna. The airport's administrator, SAC, reported that the wind conditions led to the closure of sectors C1 and B3, interrupting arrivals and departures. Passengers are advised to check their flight status with their airlines before heading to the airport.
The Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) recorded the opening of a new eruptive vent around 11:30 am the previous day, at an altitude of approximately 2.090 meters, at the base of the north wall of the Bove Valley. In the same area, another fissure had already opened the previous night, at about 1.900 meters.
