According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, the new European pact on migrants came into force on June 12, 2026, and replaces the Dublin Regulation with a set of ten measures called SEAC, the European Asylum System. The central rule, however, was maintained: it is up to the country of first arrival to examine asylum applications, which directly penalizes Italy, Greece, and Spain.
In 2025, according to the International Organization for Migration, 158.003 migrants will have entered the European Union via identified routes. Of that total, 66.316 landed in Italy.
