According to the RaiNews portal, the oceans recorded the highest average surface temperature ever measured for July 2026. The data comes from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. The average was 20,96°C, surpassing the previous record of 20,89°C from July 2023. Exceptionally high temperatures were observed in the tropical Pacific, where El Niño conditions are expected to intensify in the coming months, according to Copernicus.

Globally, July 2026 was the second warmest July on record, 1,47°C above the pre-industrial average. In Western Europe, France, Spain, England, and Ireland experienced their third and fourth heat waves since May.
