According to Sky TG24, Gianni Di Vita, father and husband of the two women who died from ricin poisoning in Pietracatella in December, was questioned for more than six hours at the Campobasso police station. According to unconfirmed reports, investigators staged a confrontation between him and a female friend of his. Upon leaving the building, when questioned by reporters, Di Vita simply stated that "you can answer many of these questions yourselves."
Tests conducted in Germany confirmed what the Pavia Poison Control Center had already established in previous months: Gianni Di Vita and his daughter Alice had no contact with the substance. The Larino Prosecutor's Office requested that specialists from the German institute perform antibody tests to determine possible exposure. The result was negative. The center is considered one of the most advanced in the world in the study of poisons and had developed techniques capable of detecting traces of ricin months later, which is why it was involved in the investigation.
Mattia del Zotto, 27, nephew and grandson of the victims, is accused of killing his grandparents and an aunt. After arresting him, the Carabinieri showed him the vials of the substance he allegedly used. Ricin is a highly lethal toxin extracted from castor beans.
