According to the RaiNews portal, Valter Lavitola confessed to the judge that he ordered the attack against journalist Sigfrido Ranucci. The interrogation lasted more than five hours. Lavitola's lawyer, Sergio Cola, said that his client "confirmed the accusatory hypothesis" and stated that he acted to protect Ranucci from threats, requesting that his security detail be reinforced. The defense also requested a reduction in the precautionary measure. The seized material, including phones and computers, remains under analysis by investigators.

The theory of the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate is that Lavitola orchestrated the attack not against Ranucci, but in his own favor, to increase the journalist's notoriety and strengthen a potential political future.
