According to Sky TG24, Valter Lavitola, arrested on suspicion of ordering the attack against journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, appeared in a room at Rebibbia prison for questioning before a judge. It is not ruled out that the former editor will exercise his right to remain silent, as he did in July after a search of his home, limiting himself to spontaneous statements. According to investigators, Lavitola allegedly ordered the attack to increase Ranucci's popularity, with the aim of launching him into politics and leading him to head the government. The journalist, according to the investigation, was unaware of the plan.

Ranucci's lawyer, Roberto De Vita, stated that the journalist is "a victim three times over": of the attack, of betrayal, and of being manipulated by a friend.
