According to Sky TG24, a 7,4 magnitude earthquake struck Colombia with its epicenter near San José del Palmar, in the Chocó department, in the northwest of the country. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella stated that the death toll has already surpassed 100. The mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, confirmed at least 20 collapsed buildings in the city. According to local media, there are children among those trapped under the rubble of the Cali university hospital.
The Italian ambassador in Bogotá, Giancarlo Curcio, told ANSA that, so far, there are no reports of Italian citizens in danger in the most affected areas. Survivors described the tremor as a "hell" that seemed to last about two minutes.
