Zema regularized his citizenship through the Italian Consulate in Minas Gerais

The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), did not have his Italian citizenship revoked following the operation against fraud. arrested seven Brazilians last week.

According to lawyer Eduardo Chelotti, who is defending Zema in the citizenship process, the situation of the governor and his family was resolved through an administrative process carried out at the Italian Consulate in Minas Gerais. "The process was finalized a few days ago," said the lawyer.

In early 2018, the governor's name was included on a list issued by Italian authorities of Brazilians who allegedly used fraudulent procedures to obtain Italian citizenship in Ospedaletto Lodigiano, in the north of the country.

Pre-candidate for the government of Minas Gerais at the time, Zema and more than a thousand Brazilians had their processes canceled on the grounds that they did not meet the necessary legal requirements. In that case, the residence was considered illegal.

At the time, he called himself a “victim” and stated that he had hired professionals who he considered ethical to take care of his case.
