Passengers with planned trips to or from Italy on Monday, May 11, 2026, should prepare for possible delays and cancellations. A series of nationwide strikes will affect airlines and airport services.
Pilots and flight attendants from easyJet plan to strike for eight hours, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. During the same hours, air traffic controllers from Enav in Rome and Naples will also be on strike.
The air traffic controllers' strike in Rome could have repercussions throughout Italian airspace. The strike may result in flight diversions and cancellations at several airports across the country.
Ground crews at airports Roma FiumicinoIn Rome, Ciampino and Palermo have declared a strike from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Meanwhile, at Milan Malpensa and Cagliari airports, ground services will be interrupted from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The strikes are expected to affect check-in, boarding, and baggage handling services. The national airline, ITA Airways, has already announced the cancellation of dozens of flights scheduled for this date.
In Italy, flights scheduled to depart between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM and between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM are protected by law and should proceed as normal. ENAC (the Italian Civil Aviation Authority) has released a list of guaranteed flights, which includes domestic and international routes.
Among the flights guaranteed to Brazil, the TAM (LATAM) operation between Rome Fiumicino and Guarulhos Airport (TAM flight 8121) stands out. Routes to North America, Asia, and the Middle East also have specific protected services.
