Italy honors the 'heroes' of the pandemic

57 people will receive the Knight of the Republic medal

57 citizens will be decorated for their commitment to combating the covid-19 pandemic.

The group will receive the medal of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and includes people from different professions and geographical origins.

The announcement was made by the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, this Wednesday (3). “The recognitions, awarded individually, represent the commitment of so many citizens in the name of solidarity and constitutional values”, says the presidency note.

Among those honored are doctors and nurses working on the front line against the pandemic and researchers from the Lazzaro Spallanzani Institute, the largest reference in infectious diseases in Italy, the Sacco Hospital and the University of Milan Studies.
