Italy has been dealing with unemployment rates above 10% for more than half a decade, but a study released last week showed that there are thousands of vacancies in the country that are not of interest to workers.
The survey was carried out by the Union of Italian Chambers of Commerce (Unioncamere) and reveals that restaurants opened 11 thousand vacancies for waiters in January, but that 23% of these positions remain empty.
Other categories of manual work or those that require less qualifications also face a labor shortage. Among kitchen assistants, this rate is 42%; among sales representatives, 51%; for pizza makers, 97%.
