Italian President Sergio Mattarella reinforced this Wednesday (12) that his country is “open and welcoming” to foreigners.
The statement was made during the ceremony celebrating the centenary of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, in Umbria, which begins another academic year today.
In his speech, the head of state recalled that the institution, by receiving students from various countries, including Brazil, brings together “so much diversity that has a common value that keeps them united”. “Italy is a welcoming and open country”, he assured.
For Mattarella, “the richness of the world” lies in its differences, something that the University of Perugia reflects “like a mirror”.
Furthermore, he also highlighted the role of culture as a “vehicle of peace, dialogue and collaboration” in the face of so many “wars and violence in the world”, as well as the “great opportunities offered by science”.
“There are many questions about which path to take, and the university has the task of helping in this choice. University diversity has a common value that keeps it united, culture”, he concluded.HANDLE)
