Italian-Brazilian lawyer Patricia Vanzolini was elected last Thursday (25) as the first woman president of the São Paulo section of the Brazilian Bar Association.

She is the granddaughter of Brazilian singer Paulo Vanzolini, author of songs such as Ronda, Volta Por Cima and Na Boca da Noite. In turn, Paulo, who died in 2013, aged 89, was the son of the engineer Carlos Alberto Vanzolini.

In an interview with Dante Cultural magazine, Paulo Vanzolini said that the family came from Calabria, in the South of Italy, at the end of the 19th century. The person who arrived in Brazil was his paternal great-grandfather, who left his native country because of his political choice: anarchism.

As he was frowned upon by the Italian government, he had to come to Brazil to escape the police. In Paraná, he participated in the Colonia Cecilia, a pioneering anarchist experience in Brazil.

The new president of OAB São Paulo, Patricia Vanzolini, is 49 years old, has a doctorate in Criminal Law from PUC and is a professor at Mackenzie University, in São Paulo, and of courses for the Bar exam at Damásio Educacional.

She is also married and mother of two girls, Sofia and Priscila. “More than representing the first woman in command of the largest section in the country, I recognize the weight of the responsibility that is to rebuild the Order with my commitment to act in the uncompromising defense of the prerogatives of all lawyers and the valorization of the profession, from the first to the last day of my mandate”, he declared.
