Currently, passport procedures need to be carried out in Curitiba.
An old demand from the Italian community in Santa Catarina, another step is taken towards the installation of the body in the State.
The Italian Consulate General in Curitiba has received two pieces of equipment that will allow for the collection of biometric data from those interested in obtaining a passport. The equipment will be installed in Londrina and Florianópolis, thus eliminating the need for people from northern Paraná and almost all of Santa Catarina to travel to Curitiba to obtain a passport.
This is the first step towards the installation of an Italian Career Consulate in Santa Catarina, which has 60% of its population of Italian origin.
Last year, representing the government of Santa Catarina, State Representative Cleiton Salvaro held several meetings in Brazil and Italy to expedite the establishment of the agency in the state. “At the end of the year, in addition to several meetings, we sent a letter to the Italian Consulate in Curitiba requesting the equipment that was already part of a project by the Italian government. The government of Santa Catarina is sympathetic to the idea and has already offered to provide a location and staff to work at the Consulate, but we understand that an advanced office would initially meet the demand in Santa Catarina,” emphasizes Salvaro.
The system operators are undergoing training and the Consulate will soon announce the start of services and the scheduling method for these two locations.
