Giorgia Meloni chose Puglia, in southern Italy, for her August 2026 vacation.

Giorgia Meloni has chosen again. in PugliaShe has chosen the region in southern Italy to spend her August holidays. This is the fifth consecutive summer that the Italian Prime Minister has chosen the region as her destination, alternating between the coast and the tranquility of the Val d'Itria.

This time, according to Corriere della SeraMeloni is expected to stay at Masseria Beneficio in Ceglie Messapica, amidst the region's olive groves. The property has six bedrooms, a private pool, and a location that promotes privacy, a characteristic that helps explain the Italian Prime Minister's preference for the interior of Puglia.

Why Puglia?

Meloni's vacation history helps to map out a route through the region.

In 2021, she chose Polignano a Mare, one of the best-known locations on the Pugliese coast, famous for its houses built on the cliffs of the Adriatic.

In the following years, she began to favor the Val d'Itria, a region marked by olive groves, trulli, stone walls, and small historic towns. Locorotondo and Ceglie Messapica were among the destinations chosen by the Prime Minister.

The preference for the countryside doesn't seem accidental. Val d'Itria combines tranquility, gastronomy, rural landscapes, and relatively quick access to some of Puglia's best-known tourist destinations.

It is also a region where it is still possible to find small towns far from the intense activity of the beaches during the summer.

In gastronomy, some of the symbols of Apulian cuisine appear, such as orecchiette, burrata, locally produced olive oils, and regional wines, including Primitivo.

A roadmap through Meloni's destinations

Those wishing to explore the region will find numerous masserie scattered throughout the interior of Puglia. These are old rural properties that have been transformed, in many cases, into hotels, inns, and high-end residences.

For those who prefer the coast, Polignano a Mare offers small coves, cliffs, and a historic center overlooking the Adriatic.

locorotondo, considered one of the most characteristic towns in the Val d'Itria, is notable for its narrow streets, white houses, flower-filled balconies, and views over the valley.

Ceglie Messapica, chosen again by Meloni this summer, occupies a strategic position for exploring locations such as Ostuni, Martina Franca, Alberobello and Locorotondo itself.

The Prime Minister's repeated trip to Puglia reveals a different side of the country than the one associated solely with the crowded beaches of the Italian summer. It's a region that can also be discovered along its inland roads, among centuries-old olive groves, small towns, and old rural estates.

What is a masseria?

Masseria is the name given to large, historic rural estates, common especially in southern Italy. in Puglia.

Many emerged as fortified agricultural centers and included residences, areas for workers, warehouses, stables, and structures for the production of olive oil, wine, and other foodstuffs.

In recent decades, several masserie have been restored and transformed into hotels, agriturismos, and luxury accommodations, preserving elements of the original architecture while incorporating modern facilities.
