The Italian Public Prosecutor's Office agrees with the appeal of the lawyer Antonio Cattaneo against the thesis of the Great Naturalization, which will be the subject of consideration in “Supreme Court of Cassation” Italian on July 12th.
The decision, to which the Italianismo portal had exclusive access, weakens the thesis of the Italian State, represented by the lawyer from the Internal Ministry, defender of the old theory that could affect millions of Italian-Brazilians.
Cattaneo's appeal was presented this week, in a defense with extensive arguments and which, according to Italianismo, resulted in a piece lasting more than 50 pages.
It is worth remembering that the Italian Public Ministry, through “State Attorney"(State Advocacy), would be delaying Italian citizenship processes"ius sanguinis” based on a decree of November 15, 1889, according to which Italian immigrants in Brazil would have been naturalized as Brazilians.
This decree, which would have “automatically” naturalized all Italian immigrants, is known as the Grand Naturalization.
Since the beginning of this controversy, several politicians in Italy and Brazil have been fighting for the rights of Italian-Brazilians, who could lose their right to Italian citizenship if this argument prevails.
To put a definitive end to the controversy, a hearing was scheduled at the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation for July 12th.
