The Immigration Museum in São Paulo will host the 3rd edition of the “VIVA! Italy” festival, an event dedicated to promoting Italian culture, between the 17th and 18th of August, from 11am to 18pm (local time).
The initiative will feature artistic, audiovisual presentations, workshops, gastronomy, among other attractions, to celebrate the culture that influenced the cultural construction of São Paulo and, especially, the Mooca neighborhood, where the museum is located.
The festival coincides with the celebration of the anniversary of the popular São Paulo neighborhood, considered a traditional stronghold of Italians and European immigrants. Furthermore, it is part of the calendar celebrating 150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil.
Entrance is free, and tickets must be collected at the museum box office. Registration for workshops and activities must be done 20 minutes before each session.
The Hospedaria de Imigrantes do Brás was the place that welcomed and sent thousands of people, from the most varied backgrounds, to new jobs. During its 91 years of operation, around 800 Italians, the predominant nationality among the 70 recorded in historical documentation, passed through the building.
