New scheduling system is similar to that adopted by the São Paulo consulate
From June onwards, the Consulate General of Buenos Aires will adopt, in experimental mode, a new model for scheduling Italian citizenship processes jus sanguinis (by right of blood).
Scheduling will be done via video call via the WhatsApp application.
The measure announced by Ricardo Merlo, Italy's undersecretary for foreign affairs, aims to combat the scheduling mafia. "This system will further strengthen the battle against what we have already defined as the scheduling mafia, which we will begin to exterminate," he said.
A similar system was adopted for scheduling passport issuance or renewal appointments at the Italian consulate in São Paulo.
Since the service was implemented in the capital of São Paulo, obtaining the document has become an almost impossible mission.
In theory, through a video call, a consulate operator checks the identity of the Italian citizen and the necessary documents. There are reports of people trying for months to receive care, without success.
Merlo did not disclose whether the new system for scheduling Italian citizenship processes will be applied at consulates in Brazil.
