the american newspaper The New York Times has put the Italian cities of Bergamo and Brescia on its list of 52 destinations to visit in 2023.
Hardly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, these two Lombardy municipalities this year share the title of Italian capital of culture and will have a busy calendar with more than 100 events until December.
“Milan may overshadow Bergamo and Brescia, but the spotlight will fall on these two Lombard cities in 2023”, says the “NYT”.
Bergamo, which experienced the most dramatic scenes of the pandemic in Italy, with collapsing hospitals and rows of coffins in cemeteries, it is distinguished, according to the newspaper, “by its ancient walled upper town and modern lower town, both connected by narrow streets, a funicular and a footpath”.
“Brescia, about 30 miles [48 kilometers] to the southeast, is a beautiful crossroads of Roman, medieval, and Renaissance sites,” states the New York Times, which also highlights the “excellent food” of both cities.
The American newspaper's list also includes two Brazilian destinations: Lençóis Maranhenses and Manaus. (Handle).
