The number of travelers from Italy to Brazil grew by almost 50% in 2023, the year in which the South American country broke a record in revenue from international tourism.
According to data from Embratur, a federal government agency for promoting tourism, 129,4 thousand visitors from Italy arrived at Brazilian airports last year, an increase of 49,10% over 2022 (86,8 thousand).
With this, the “Beautiful country” ranked 10th on the list of main senders of international travelers to Brazil, with 2,2% of the total.
The ranking is led by Argentina, with 1,9 million people (32%), followed by the United States, with 668,5 thousand (11%); Chile, with 458,6 thousand (7,7%); Paraguay, with 424,5 thousand (7,1%); and Uruguay, with 334,7 thousand (5,6%).
The top 10 also includes France, with 187,6 thousand (3,1%); Portugal, with 182,5 thousand (3%); Germany, with 158,6 thousand (2,6%); and the United Kingdom, with 130,2 thousand (2,2%).
Furthermore, according to the Central Bank, international tourists spent US$6,9 billion (R$34,5 billion) in Brazil in 2023, a record figure and 1,5% higher than the previous best mark, recorded in 2014 , year of the World Cup. In relation to 2022, the growth was 41%.
The new National Tourism Plan, approved at the end of January, sets the goal of reaching US$8,1 billion in 2027.
