The Nuvolau Refuge, the oldest in the Dolomites, is looking for a new manager. A good reason for those who think, in the current circumstances, of escape to the mountains.
Built on top of Mount Nuvolau, at an altitude of 2575 meters, the refuge of the same name enchants travelers and mountaineers for the stunning views it offers, as long as it was built in 1883.
It is the oldest refuge in the Dolomites, already mentioned by Paul Grohmann, the legendary Austrian climber and writer, in his work Wanderungen in den Dolomiten of 1877:

But if a single visit isn't enough, you can apply as a manager of the oldest refuge in the Dolomites.
Requirements needed to be a manager at the Dolomites refuge
A few days ago, in fact, the publication of the notice for the management of this enchanted place was published.
After more than 40 years of work, the refuge's historic managers, Mansueto Siorpaes and his wife Giovanna, are ready to hand over the baton.
This is an opportunity that will allow those who choose to succeed them to live an extraordinary experience on the mountain. Coming into direct contact with authentic and almost untouched nature.
The new manager will be chosen by the CAI – Board of Directors of the Cortina d'Ampezzo Section –, owner of the refuge.
Among the necessary requirements to entrust the care of the refuge are the “knowledge of the places, the sharing of the values of the CAI and the ability to value, respect and safeguard what is one of the symbols of the mountains and mountaineering in Italy”, says the notice.
A spirit of adaptation is also needed, that refuge that seems to allow people to touch the sky with their finger, is managed in the old fashioned way. But it is precisely this almost primordial and extremely genuine charm that makes a difference.
The deadline for submitting the application is February 15, 2021. You can do so directly at CAI website in Cortina d'Ampezzo, where you will also find the announcement and the respective participation requirements.
