It's Giorgio Armani's return to the sporting world – in style
If arriving for games is the moment in which we can get a sense of how stylish football players really are, you can expect a lot from the Italian team in the upcoming championships. Giorgio Armani has signed a four-year contract with the FIGC (Federazione Italiana Gioco Calcio – Italian Football Federation) to create the formal wardrobe for the Italian men's and women's football teams and their respective under-21 categories.
The partnership is not Armani's first venture into the world of sport. The designer created the uniforms for the Italian national team for the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, and has collaborated with the English national team and also with some of the most important international clubs, designing official uniforms for Newcastle, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Now the Italian team will use Emporio Armani in looks that consist of a suit combined with a shirt and overcoat. According to Giorgio, the uniform will be formal but comfortable. Jersey is the material of choice, “because it is relaxed and practical”, and the outerwear can be worn in all seasons thanks to removable linings. All items have the FIGC shield. The uniform also includes shoes and accessories such as a backpack and belt, as well as small leather items and Emporio Armani glasses.
The new law will now be reviewed by the European Union's courts. And there are European precedents that strengthen the defense of descendants.

“I am returning to football after my experience with Chelsea and Bayern, and I am once again dressing the Italian national team, as I did at the 1994 World Cup. I have created a wardrobe that is consistent with my vision, designed for athletes who are constantly on the move. It is another way of communicating Italy’s sense of style to the world,” said Giorgio Armani in an official statement.
Teams are expected to wear the new clothes soon, probably first at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France. So stay tuned.
