Italy is holding its third general strike of the month this Friday (29). The 24-hour strike affects rail, air and urban transport across the country, as well as non-emergency education and health services in the public and private sectors.
The unions called the strike in protest against the rising cost of living associated with the war in Iran, demanding higher wages and better contracts. The joint statement from the organizations also calls for the "suspension of all commercial and political ties with Israel" and solidarity with Palestine and Lebanon.
Trains
The strike affects interstate and long-distance trains — including high-speed services — operated by Trenitalia and by the private operator Italo, in addition to some regional routes.
Trenitalia reported that “trains may be cancelled or altered” between 9pm on Thursday (28) and 21pm on Friday (29). Some essential services are guaranteed between 6am and 21am and between 18pm and 21pm on weekdays.
The regional operator Trenord, in northern Italy, warned that regional, suburban and airport services may be affected. Connections with the Milan airports Any services that are eventually cancelled will be replaced by bus service.

Voos
Air transport will also be affected throughout the day, with the strike beginning at midnight. The airports in Naples and those managed by Aeroporti di Puglia — Bari, Brindisi, Foggia and Taranto Grottaglie — have already warned passengers of possible cancellations and delays.
The Italian civil aviation authority Enac guarantees the operation of some flights during protected hours from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The list of guaranteed flights is available on the Enac website.
Urban transport
Buses, subways, and other public transportation services in Rome, Milan, and other cities across the country are also expected to be affected, with schedules varying by city. Naples is an exception—the operator ANM confirmed that local services will not be interrupted.
Ferries and tolls are also on the list: connections to Italian islands may be canceled, and toll plaza workers will be on strike from 22 pm Thursday until 22 pm Friday.
