Italy is expected to register 65,8 million tourist arrivals during the next northern hemisphere summer, an increase of 2,1% compared to the same period in 2023.
The forecast for the next summer season is contained in the Demoskopika Institute's Tourism Forecast Summer 2024 report, which ANSA anticipated publishing this Thursday (18), and marks a new increase in tourist flows in Italy.
According to the data, 266 million overnight stays are expected in the country, an increase of 1,1% compared to last year's figures.
The report also states that 35,5 million tourists will be foreigners, around 5% more than the number recorded in 2023, which is equivalent to just over half the global value of expected arrivals. In total, visitors from abroad will account for 135,5 million overnight stays.
Furthermore, according to the president of Demoskopika, Raffaele Rio, the occurrence of a “proactive” scenario could produce an upward effect on the estimates: 70 million arrivals and 278,3 million presences with an increasing variation, compared to the same period in 2023, equal to 8,8% and 5,8%.
A more optimistic scenario that could consolidate the surpassing in relation to the pre-pandemic period of 2019 with an increase in both arrivals (+6,8%) and overnight stays (+7%).
“The next summer season promises to be promising for Italian tourism, with an estimated growth in both arrivals and attendances. Although Italy is also among the destinations with the lowest tourism inflation rate, rising costs in critical areas such as air transport, however, risk almost entirely absorbing the benefits of higher tourism spending,” explained Rio.
According to him, “in this sense, it is more necessary than ever to adopt strategies that are not only reactive, but above all proactive, so that the Italian tourism industry adapts quickly to the needs of the market and the economy”.
