A chain of restaurants, pizzerias, bars, tractor-trailers, ice cream parlors and other establishments that offers quality food and gastronomy under favorable conditions through payment with digital meal vouchers.
This is "Gli amici del Pellegrino," a new initiative dedicated to the faithful and tourists who will visit Rome, the capital of Italy, during the Jubilee.
The project is a collaboration between the Dicastery for Evangelization, the Welfare Pellegrini group, and Confcommercio Roma, given that 32 million people are expected in the "Eternal City" for the event promoted by the Catholic Church.
The initiative foresees that groups of pilgrims arriving in Rome through organized excursions, once welcomed by the parish network, will receive digital meal vouchers in their welcome kits.
The number of tickets varies according to the package chosen by the faithful. Therefore, those who opt for the weekend only will be entitled to four vouchers, while those who choose the weekly package will have 10. All vouchers are worth 10 euros each.
The vouchers can be used – upon presentation of a QR code – at companies in the “Gli Amici del Pellegrino” network and at 85 affiliated partners. Currently, around 400 companies have joined the project.
“I suggested how important it was for those who come to Rome to find a coherent welcome, that Rome be able to welcome without further exploiting the Jubilee moment. Not everyone listened.
“Raising prices is an easy temptation, knowing that so many people are coming. I believe that this network can become a defense for pilgrims, a help and also an advertising tool for companies,” explained the pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, in charge of organizing the Holy Year, Monsignor Rino Fisichella, in the presentation of the project.
According to the Councilor for Productive Activities and Equal Opportunities of Roma Capita, Monica Lucarelli, “the Municipality of Rome has embraced this initiative because it offers the possibility to Roman commercial companies to join this network that offers food products, breakfasts, lunches and dinners to pilgrims through meal vouchers at fair, inclusive prices that suit all budgets”.
