“Milk war” broke out in Sardinia, where thousands of liters of sheep's milk were dumped on the road; firefighters seek to make roads passable

With a median price of R$3 per liter, milk is a very valuable item on Brazilians' tables. The same happens in Italy, a country where typical cuisine is created and explored using the so-called latte (the name of the drink in Italian). However, with the drop in the price of the drink in the Italian food industry, producers in Sardinia took to the streets to protest.
Producers blocked several roads on the island in a demonstration against the drop in the price of milk, which is sold to the industry for around 60 euro cents per liter. This Saturday morning (9), protesters interrupted traffic in both directions on highway 131, the main artery in Sardinia that connects Cagliari with Sassari.
The new law will now be reviewed by the European Union's courts. And there are European precedents that strengthen the defense of descendants.

Other blockages were recorded on other roads in the region, such as 125, in Ogliastra, and 129, in Orotelli. In all of them, producers threw thousands of liters of the drink on the asphalt, as a sign of protest. In videos and photos, it is possible to see the large amount of drink wasted.

According to the newspaper Today.it , producers believe that it is better to waste the liquid than to sell it to the processing industries, which now pay only “change” for the material. The situation is being considered so unsustainable that the press has called it the “milk war”.
Even today, a group of protesters even tried to prevent Cagliari players from leaving the club's training center, which will face Milan this Sunday (10), in Milan, in Serie A of the Italian championship. “So it will be written in the newspapers that the match was postponed not because of snow or rain, but because of a protest against industrialists,” said one of the protesters.
After negotiations, the situation was resolved: some Cagliari athletes emptied bottles of milk on the street as a sign of solidarity. One of the players who participated in the negotiations was Brazilian João Pedro.

In turn, producers and agricultural organizations are calling for immediate action from the Italian government. After all, they claim that the price of milk has fallen from 85 euro cents per liter last season to 60 cents this season.
The processing industries deny any agreement. But Italy's Agricultural Policy Minister, Gian Marco Centinaio, has already announced that he is expected to travel to Sardinia next week to talk to pastoralists. Meanwhile, thousands of liters of milk have already been wasted.
