O Etna volcano in Sicily, “woke up” this Sunday (13) at night and caused rivers of lava and a “rain” of ash that invaded balconies, streets and sidewalks in the streets of second largest city on the island, Catania.
Etna, 3.329 meters high, is the largest volcano in Europe and the second most active in the world, after Mount Kilauea, in Hawaii.
It erupted this Sunday at 21:20 pm local time (17:20 pm Brasília time), and following an earthquake of magnitude 2,7, according to local media.
The volcano is located above a fissure between the African and Eurasian tectonic plates, which makes it particularly active, having a tendency to show activity during the Christmas time.
Several videos of the volcano were shared on social media, which can be seen below, on CNN Brazil.
