The Italian government is studying a pension fund that would be opened at the birth of each child. Labor Minister Marina Calderone said she is evaluating the feasibility of the measure and that the financial coverage could be found without drawing resources from other instruments, as only small amounts would be needed to start the fund. The statement was given in an interview with Corriere della Sera, according to the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
The model foresees an initial public contribution and, later, deposits from family members and the beneficiary themselves. The proposal had already received the green light from INPS, the institute that manages the Italian public pension system, as well as COVIP and ANIA. In Germany, the government has just approved a similar fund, with a deposit of 10 euros per month.
Calderone also advocated confirming in 2027 the work package included in the 2026 Budget, with tax breaks on salary adjustments from collective agreements and a 1% tax on productivity contracts up to five thousand euros. The Undersecretary of Labor, Claudio Durigon, stated that the League is studying including in the Budget a flexibility clause allowing retirement at age 64, at the worker's discretion.
