Located in the region of Umbria, in the province of Terni, the Italian city of Orvieto is among the most welcoming municipalities in the world in 2025, according to a ranking prepared by the online hotel reservation service Booking.com.
This recognition, based on verified reviews from international travelers, celebrates the excellence of the hospitality of the “pearl of Umbria”, situated on a tuff cliff and famous for its medieval charm and extraordinary Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic art.
The city, overlooking the Tiber Valley, has been attracting growing interest from travelers around the world. Among the most represented nationalities, Americans, Germans and British stand out, while significant increases can be observed in searches from Dutch (+26%), French (+22%) and Canadian (+31%) tourists.
Couples are the main category visiting Orvieto, followed by families, groups and individual travelers, whose numbers have increased by 12%.
When it comes to accommodation preferences, the Italian city reflects its authentic character: after hotels, apartments and guesthouses, agritourism is the fourth most popular choice, confirming the rural charm of the region.

The new ranking also shows that Italy continues to stand out globally, confirming itself for the eighth consecutive year as the country with the highest number of properties awarded by Booking.com's “Traveller Review Awards”, a total of 207.652.
Globally, 1,71 million partners were recognized, including accommodations, car rental companies and taxi providers.
According to Booking.com's regional manager for Italy, Alessandro Callari, the award is “a way to celebrate the extraordinary commitment of our partners and the uniqueness of destinations like Orvieto, a true hidden gem”.
The Mayor of Orvieto, Roberta Tardani, also expressed great satisfaction with the recognition, highlighting that it “rewards the entire city and the operators of the tourism sector, the first ambassadors of an authentic experience”.
“It is the result of a collective effort that values our cultural, food and wine heritage and crafts. This milestone is not a point of arrival, but an incentive to continue improving the tourist offer, also focusing on naturalist itineraries and outdoor activities”, added Tardani.

With the honor, Orvieto joins an exclusive list of cities awarded in 2025, including Sigiriya (Sri Lanka), Cazorla (Spain), Urubici (Brazil), Taupo (New Zealand), St.
Augustine (United States), Manizales (Colombia), Quedlinburg (Germany), Ko Lanta (Thailand) and Chester (United Kingdom). (Ansa Brasil)
