Accumulated average drop is related to the reduction in demand; discount reached the Italian consumer
Fuel prices in Italy have plummeted since the start of the new coronavirus pandemic.
On average, the price of gasoline fell 13,4% for consumers at gas stations across the country. At the beginning of February, a liter of gasoline cost €1,57, and now it costs €1,36.
But it can be found for up to €1,04, depending on the region, as in the case of Papozze, in the province of Rovigo. Before the pandemic, a liter of gasoline in the city was sold for €1,52 – a drop of 31,5%; and the highest is in Arzachena, an Italian commune in the Sardinia region, €1,76.

The data is collected by Global Petrol Prices, a website that tracks fuel prices in 250 cities in 150 countries, including Brazil, and at least Prices Petrol, which monitors prices in Italy.
Diesel registered an average drop of 23%, according to the websites. In Como, for example, diesel costs an average of €1,28. But it can be found for €1 in Livigno, a commune in the Lombardy region. Milan has the highest price, according to PrezziBenzina. At a gas station in via Caracciolo, a liter cost €1,69, this Thursday (14).
LPG – Liquefied Petroleum Gas – also had a significant drop, of 10,9%, from €0,64 to €0,57.
But it can be found for €0,52 in Milan (lowest price), and €0,79 in Castronovo di Sicilia, in the province of Palermo.
Although the drop in prices seems advantageous, monitoring carried out by Codacons, an Italian consumer protection body, shows that from January to April 2020 international oil prices fell by 74%.
In Italy, the burden of taxes reaches 70% on each liter of fuel.
