Casa Fiat de Cultura celebrates “Dante’s Day”

Casa Fiat de Cultura celebrates “Dante’s Day”

Considered the first and greatest poet in the Italian language, Dante Alighieri is called “il sommo Poet” (the supreme poet).

An important name in Italian culture, he began to be celebrated annually on March 25th, on Dante's Day, or “Dantedì”.

To mark this date and celebrate his work, the Fiat House of CultureIn partnership with the Torino Foundation and the Italian Consulate, the event is today titled "From Hell to Paradise: a conversation about The Divine Comedy," with Riccardo Cassoli, professor of literature and history at the Torino Foundation.

The virtual lecture honors “Dante's Day” in the year of the seventh centenary of the poet's death.

The event will be held at 19 pm, with live online broadcast. Participation is free, with registration via Sympla.

In this chat, Cassoli will explain the structure, symbolism and allegories present in the poet's masterpiece, “The Divine Comedy”.

He explains that, even after 700 years, it is still worth embarking on the “adventure of traveling with Dante”, and emphasizes, in Alighieri's own words, that a sacred work must be read on four levels: the literal, the allegorical, the moral and the anagogical (mystical).

“Very commonly, in schools, they limit themselves to interpreting only the Dantean text and the allegory (the implied meaning), without worrying about understanding what Dante writes for our happiness (moral meaning) and for our salvation (anagogical level)” , he emphasizes.

Composed of more than 14 thousand verses, the poem “The Divine Comedy” is divided into three parts: Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.

It was written with an epic and ideological bias, and Dante himself is the protagonist of this plot.

He goes on a journey through these three instances and, along the way, crosses paths with friends, acquaintances and other figures, always debating different topics.

The work is an allegory about the path that a sinner needs to take to find salvation and eternal happiness, even though he is tempted by evil.

The work explores several issues, such as the association between beauty and happiness, and even with salvation.

The chat “From Hell to Paradise: a conversation about The Divine Comedy” is a realization of Fiat House of Culture in partnership with Torino International School Foundation and Italian Consulate in Belo Horizonte.
