The discussion about the Budget Law 2025 in Italy This is generating great anticipation, especially among the Italian-Brazilian community, due to Article 106, which provides for an increase in the fee for Italian citizenship processes carried out in Italian courts (action against the waiting lists).

The proposal, which involves an adjustment in the value of unified contributionThis has caused apprehension, as it could directly impact thousands of Brazilians seeking Italian citizenship.

Currently, the fee is 545 euros (approximately R$ 3.500) per process. If article 106 is approved, the fee will be increased to 600 euros (approximately R$ 3.850), charged individually per applicant, regardless of the number of people involved in the same process.

The measure would affect Brazilian citizens who intend to file for Italian citizenship in Italian courts, but would not impact processes carried out in Italian consulates or municipalities.

Amendments to Article 106

According to Italianism found, 11 amendments were presented to modify or remove article 106, with 7 of them proposing the complete suppression of the fee of 600 euros.

These amendments were drafted by parliamentarians from different parties, both from the government (such as Lega and Noi Moderati) and from the opposition (such as Partido Democrático and Movimento 5 Stelle), demonstrating consensus on the need to review this measure.

Fabio Porta's opinion

the deputy Fabio Porta (PD), which has been closely following discussions on the issue in the Italian Parliament, expressed its concern about the effects of the measure.

“I am following this with my colleagues on the Budget Committee and also with my advisors. I know that people are distressed, but that is how it is. The work of amending the Budget Law is very complex. There are a large number of amendments, then a reduction, and a dialogue with the government. It is not easy to reach a definition, especially when the government has already presented a proposal, and when there is a very strong and solid majority in favor of it. I hope that this (approval) does not happen, but if it does, it will be another blow by this government against the Italians of South America, mainly. I hope not”, declared Porta to Italianism.

When it comes into force, if approved

O text of the Budget Law 2025 must be presented to the Chamber of Deputies next December 16th. The deadline for approval is until December 31, 2024, with the expectation that the text will be completed before Christmas. If approved, the rate increase will come into effect from January 1, 2025.
