Heavy snowfall in Italy forces couple to give birth at home

A couple of San Quirico d'Orcia, in the region of Toscana, was stuck at home because of heavy snowfall and had to deliver his son guided by an obstetrician who was connected by phone.   

The parents received guidance from doctor Leila Teodorani, from the Siena-Grosseto Operations Center, and were able to complete the entire process for the birth of the new member of the family.

According to authorities, the Italian went into labor and called the local emergency service, but the ambulance was unable to reach the residence in time because of the heavy snowfall that hit much of the country and left roads blocked.   

Teodorani, however, advised the couple to deliver the baby. The baby was born with hypothermia due to the extreme cold, despite the house being adequately heated.   

Paramedics arrived at the scene only after the child was born, but were still able to cut the umbilical cord. The mother and baby were hospitalized and are now doing well. (HANDLE).
