Italy was the second country that received the most foreign tourists in the European Union in the last quarter of 2023, with around 34 million peoples.
The number is in the most recent bulletin from Eurostat, the EU statistics office, which places Spain at the top of this ranking, with 61 million. France appears in third place, with 18,5 million.
The report of the Eurostat also accounts for 495 million overnight stays in the bloc's hotel structure between October and December, an increase of 3,9% over the same period in 2022, with more than half concentrated in three countries: Spain (93 million overnight stays), Germany ( 92 million) and Italy (64 million).
Germany
Germany now leads the tourist ranking in the last quarter, with 73 million people, followed by France (43 million), Spain (32 million) and Italy (30 million).
According to the Italian Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, these data “testify to the will of Italy that exists in the world”.
— We are recovering Italy's credibility, and these results should encourage us to work even harder to return to being first — he said. (Ansa/Depositphotos)
