A new law comes into effect and provides for fines of up to 7.500 euros for those who fail to comply with basic remote work rules.

Companies in Italy can be fined up to 7.500 euros for failing to comply with remote work rules starting this Tuesday, April 7th. The measure reinforces the obligation to inform employees about the risks of so-called remote work. smart working.

The new rule does not create remote work nor does it alter how it works. The focus is on requiring that companies fulfill an obligation already stipulated by law.

What changes in practice

The change lies in the application of sanctions. Starting April 7th, employers who fail to provide the so-called "safety information" may face penalties.

Punishments include:

  • prison sentence of two to four months
  • fine between 1.708 and 7.403 euros

The requirement applies to remote workers as well as security representatives.

The obligation already existed.

The rule reinforces a duty established in 2017, which obliges companies to inform in writing about the risks of working outside the corporate environment.

Until now, this requirement was rarely enforced. With the new law, it will be subject to monitoring and penalties.

The role of the news agency

The document should detail risks associated with remote work, such as:

  • prolonged computer use
  • postural problems
  • visual fatigue
  • work-related stress

The company must update and provide this information at least once a year.

Change in work control

In remote work, the employer does not directly monitor the environment where the work is performed.

Therefore, the law reinforces the need to educate workers about safety, transferring part of the responsibility through information.

Impact for companies

The impact will be primarily operational, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Companies will have to:

  • create or revise the newsletter
  • Keep the document updated.
  • to ensure that it is delivered to the employees

This measure is part of adapting safety rules to new ways of working.

Remote work is still permitted. What changes is the level of requirement for compliance with the rules.
