According to Ministry of Foreign AffairsGender-based violence is a priority in consular services. The guidance also includes vicarious violence, where the abuser uses children to maintain control over the victim.
Formal registration of complaints becomes central. This procedure can prove situations of risk and assist in custody disputes, including in Brazil. The measure also aligns with the rules of the Hague Convention, which deals with the removal of children between countries.

“This (new protocol) comes at a time of urgency. I'm speaking from Italy. The number of Brazilian women who have suffered violence and abuse is growing. Knowing that the Brazilian government is concerned about this is, for us as an association, a great relief,” she told [the press]. Italianism.
The organization works to provide direct support to victims, but faces structural limitations.
“We, as an association, have helped and supported many women. Despite being small, unfortunately we still don't have a shelter or the conditions to accommodate these women. Knowing that the Brazilian government is creating something to change this situation and address this issue in a correct and fair way is very important,” she celebrated.
The president advocates for greater integration between associations, consulates, and the government.
“I believe this also represents an awakening to situations that we, as an association, have already been reporting. We sent proposals, emails, and communications to the Brazilian government about these cases. The Brazilian consulate in Milan has a psychologist and a lawyer, and this has helped and supported our association,” explained Elisangela.
She also highlights the importance of expanding support for victims.
“At the association, we have Brazilian psychologists and lawyers who help these women. But, at this moment, the ideal is to build synergy between our institution, the Brazilian government, and the consulate. This way, we can act more effectively in supporting these women, offering them the possibility of reintegration into the job market and guaranteeing them dignity to restart their lives, as well as protection.”
The president also points to difficulties faced after separations.
"Unfortunately, many Brazilian women, upon separating, end up losing custody of their children. This happens because many do not have jobs or sufficient economic means to support them," she exemplifies.
She states that the association guides women on the need for financial autonomy.

Great news. Italy is a champion in violence against women and femicide. If Italy does nothing about Italian-Brazilian women, Brazil will.
