The President awarded certificates of honor to young people who stood out for “their courageous actions” and “examples of citizenship”.
The President of Italy, Sergio Matarella, delivered certificates of honor this Wednesday morning (22)Standard bearers of the Republic” to 25 young people who stood out “for their testimony, their commitment, their courageous and supportive actions”.
“These are young people who represent positive models of citizenship and are examples for many children in our country”, said the head of state.
Three collective plaques were handed out: “Community builders”, “deserving young people” and “Positive examples of citizenship”, for actions “always inspired by values of altruism and a sense of responsibility in relation to the common good”.
Among the young people awarded was the girl Mavì Borrelli, 9 years old. A resident of Crevalcore (Bologna), she was remembered “for the solidarity shown to children and people with cancer, giving up her long hair to make wigs and donating it to bald people for the sake of therapies”.
Alice Andreanelli, 18 years old, resident in Venice, won the certificate “for his voluntary work – with many other young people – in the rescue operations in Venice during the emergency caused by the high tide last November”.
Matarella, in his speech, called for the creation of “a conscious pact between generations”, with the aim of “making Italy grow and confirm it as the wonderful country we received”.
“No society can prepare its future if young people encounter obstacles in their path of growth, or if the social structure marginalizes them, does not create opportunities and opportunities to assume responsibilities, sometimes putting them in front of forced migration choices to guarantee a future”, said the president.
According to Mattarella, this would be possible “by avoiding artificial contrasts between young and old and placing generations in competition with regard to the distribution of public resources”.
For the President of the Republic, the distribution of public investment is in fact “a treacherous terrain that questions social cohesion itself”.
